With a name so deliberately evocative of oceans, storms, and water hazards, Team Maelstrom regularly incorporates all three in their defensive sims. Often trap-based and water-themed, these sims are not prone to giving players long-term injuries but instead aim to outright eliminate players in the wake of any false steps. Additionally, a Maelstrom sim cannot be completed swiftly regardless of strategy; terrain within the sim itself is often treacherous or deceptive—though the team’s designers pride themselves that the environments are objectively beautiful while they try to “kill” anyone unlucky enough to be required to run one during the arena season.
Because of the unforgiving nature of these sims and their high rate of incompletion, Maelstrom has a somewhat contentious relationship with LACA. The association has in the past forced Maelstrom into design compliance with obscure rules that keep their sims from being too slow or too “mean.”
The team’s offensive play centers around their chosen element, utilizing AR technology for water-themed terrain control, allowing a Maelstrom team to direct the flow of a fight. They excel at sims in which they have to fight mobs and are especially adept in PvP play.
Maelstrom is Verity Victory and Max Victory’s original team, before the pair of them split off to found Team Victory.
